About
Will's Rare Breeds Farm, out on the North Coast Road in South Australia, is a pretty special place. It's not every day you get to see farm animals that are genuinely rare, some of 'em even on the brink of disappearing entirely. William Marshall, the owner, really knows his stuff and he's keen to share it. He runs guided tours where you'll learn all about the animals, where they came from, what they were bred for, and why they've become so uncommon. We're talking breeds of cattle, sheep, pigs, goats, and poultry you probably didn't even know existed, with all sorts of colours and forms. You'll definitely come away with a new appreciation for farm animals, and you'll see there's way more to 'em than what you usually find on a commercial farm. This isn't just about showing off animals either, it's a dedicated conservation project and it's believed to be the first of its kind in Australia open to the public. It's a real hands-on experience too, and your visit even helps keep the farm going, funding feed and improvements. They've recently been saved from closure thanks to some generous folk, but ongoing support from visitors is still crucial. If you're handy with building or mechanical work, Will even welcomes volunteers. It's a fantastic spot to learn, contribute to conservation, and get up close with some truly unique animals.
