About
Tizzana Winery was established in 1887 by Dr Thomas Fiaschi, a renowned surgeon who introduced Listerian Surgery into Australia. Located on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, the original vineyards were planted with imported French and Italian vine cuttings. The winery building was destroyed by fire in 1955, and the restoration of the ruins began in 1969 by Peter and Carolyn Auld. It is now a National Trust classified building.
The property has 5 acres of vines, replanted in 1980 with Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Muscat and Aleatico varieties, and an additional 4 acres of olive trees. Tizzana offers bed and breakfast accommodation and can arrange group luncheon or dinner functions with home-made treats. The winery is just over an hour from Sydney. The Cellar Door is open weekends and public holidays, with visits on weekdays by appointment.
