About
Poppy's Cottage is a farmstay and bed and breakfast located in the New England Ranges, just five minutes from Armidale. It offers a convenient stopover on the New England Highway between Sydney and Brisbane. The property is a historic settlers' cottage built around 1860 for gold miners at Hillgrove and transported by bullock team to its present location in 1901.
The B&B operates from a 140-acre farm with a large, fully fenced cottage garden. Guests can interact with friendly animals including a Border Collie, pet ducks, hens, cattle and a miniature horse named Coki. Children can help collect eggs from the chicken house. The rate is $170 per night for a double, with a 10% discount for stays of seven nights or more.
A hamper breakfast is included, featuring fresh fruit, yoghurt, home-baked bread and conserves made from the property's fruit trees, which can be enjoyed in the garden during warmer weather. The cottage is equipped with heating, electric blankets and tea and coffee facilities, with linen provided and after-dinner treats offered. The location is adjacent to a local vineyard and serves as a base for exploring historic buildings, cathedrals, the university, national parks and waterfalls in the New England area.
