About
Merna Mora Station isn't just a place to stay, it's a proper working cattle and sheep station out in the Flinders Ranges. You'll find it near Wilpena Pound, a cracker spot if you're looking for a genuine taste of the Aussie outback. The Fels family, fifth-generation locals, have been welcoming visitors to their patch since way back in 1968. They really know the area and are happy to share their passion for this lifestyle. Visitors can pick from a few different accommodation options. There are nine self-contained cabins, perfect for families or small groups, and ten bunkhouse rooms, called the Torrens Rooms, if you're after something a bit more communal. If you prefer to rough it a bit, there are powered sites for caravans and even bush camping down by a secluded creek. It's a great base for checking out the Flinders area, whether you're keen on history, natural beauty, or just want to relax. You can head out on one of their tours to learn more about the station and the surrounding country. The Mawson Bike Trail even goes right past on Moralana Scenic Drive, so it's a handy stopover for cyclists doing the Hawker to Rawnsley and Wilpena ride. Make sure you check out Bridle Gap too, it's only 15km away and part of the Heysen Trail. And if you like a bit of local history, Fred Teague's Museum in Hawker has heaps of relics from the early settlers.
