McSweeny Haven

McSweeny Haven is a hosted stay located on the site of the First Kilkivan Township, which was home to a gold rush in 1868. A 73 oz nugget was discovered on the property during that time, and gold can still be found in and around the creek.

Fossicking is permitted for an extra daily rate of $25 per person, subject to QLD Fossicking Act rules. Metal detectors are welcome, but machinery or pump-operated sluices are not permitted. The property has many shaded camping spots along the creek and a large open area of about 50 acres for larger groups. Facilities include a portable toilet, a fire pit and a year-round swimming hole fed by a solar bore. The property actively welcomes people with access needs.
