About
Gulf Station is one of Victoria's oldest and most authentic working farm complexes, offering insights into daily life on a pioneer farm in 19th-century Australia. Scottish immigrants Agnes and William Bell established the farm in the 1850s, and the family operated it for 100 years. They prospered during the gold rushes by supplying food to diggers, and were known for their hospitality, ensuring guests left with farm produce. The farm buildings were constructed by hand using traditional techniques.
The National Trust took over stewardship in 1976 and restored the buildings and garden. On Open Days, visitors can join a guided tour at 11:30 am, meet resident farm animals like Clydesdale horses, and are encouraged to pack a picnic. Group bookings for 10 or more people are available by appointment with four weeks' notice. Dogs are not permitted due to the resident farm animals.
