About
Good Heart Farm is Australia's first Community Farm™ and the world's first Sustainable Community Farm™. Located on a 200-acre ex-plantation block on the edge of the Tarkine wilderness, the farm practices and teaches Good Heart Living™, encompassing homesteading, organic growing, natural farming, and Self-Sufficient Farming™. It is home to The Good Heart School of Self-Sufficiency™, a Food Plant Sanctuary™, and The Centre for Community Self-Sufficiency™.
The farm offers an 'Introduction to Good Heart Living™ Certificate' course, teaching organic food growing, foraging, wildcrafting, identifying Tasmanian flora and fauna, basic carpentry, food preservation, Country Herb Lore, Backwoods Herbalism, nursery skills, and low-cost solar power technology. Courses run with the cycle of the seasons, and training covers a wide range of skills from Self-Sufficient Gardening™ to wilderness survival. Accommodation is available in tiny houses or campsites for self-contained vehicles, with visitors expected to contribute daily work hours to farm tasks. The farm is in a remote, mountainous area with cold, wet weather and limited internet reception. Instruction is provided by Lisa McAndrew, Australia’s first community herbalist, and Gavin Edwards, The Self-Sufficient Farmer™.
