About
Butmaroo Station is a 3,000-acre working sheep and cattle property in the Bungendore district. Its name comes from an Aboriginal word meaning 'deep creek', referencing the waterway that shapes the landscape. The region was traditionally home to the Ngarigo people.
The property has a long history, being advertised for sale in 1886 by John Flynn. A school operated on the station from 1903 until 1923. The Harrison family owned Butmaroo until the 1950s, and the current owners acquired it in 2011.
Today, the station offers boutique country retreat accommodation in renovated workers' cottages, providing a unique opportunity to experience the working farm. Visitors can wander down to Butmaroo Creek or visit picturesque dams. The accommodation is suitable for families, with features like a fenced yard. Future options include restored 1940s shearers' quarters and a mountain couples' cabin.
