About
Belgenny Farm is one of Australia's most important historic farming sites, located just outside Camden. It was established by John and Elizabeth Macarthur in 1805 as part of their original 2,000 hectare Camden property and contains the earliest collection of colonial farm buildings in Australia. The Macarthurs pioneered Merino wool production, wheat growing, dairying, horticulture and grape growing at the site.
The farm is a protected heritage site, saved from housing development in 1984 and now listed on the State Heritage Register. It has the oldest operating farm buildings in Australia. The site is self-funded, generating income for maintenance through weddings, events, guided tours, film shoots and school excursions. It offers diverse experiences including events, functions, historical tours, educational programs and public events, and is used for agritourism to promote the history of Australian agriculture. Access is limited to approved areas with site rules applying to all visitors.
