About
28 Gates Farmstay Accommodation is a seventh-generation sheep farm established in 1862, located about an hour's drive from Hobart in the Derwent Valley. The property spans over 2500 hectares. The accommodation was originally stables and grain lofts, rebuilt as shearers' quarters after the 1967 fires, and has now been restored into a luxurious farmstay.
Guests can engage in a range of activities including fly fishing in three private lakes stocked with Wild Brown, Rainbow and Tiger Trout, where no license is required and fishing is available year-round. Other experiences include feeding farm animals, farm tours, bush walks, and guided native wildlife night tours. The property also offers blacksmithing workshops for groups and features on-site museums to explore. It is a noted destination for bird watchers, with over 90 species recorded.
