About
The Kuranda Original Rainforest Market is located in the World Heritage Rainforest of Kuranda. It began in 1978, organised by local hippy artists and craftspeople who funded their own train service for two seasons to prove its viability. The markets helped establish Kuranda's reputation as an exotic rainforest destination.
Today, the market retains its original atmosphere, with many local artists and personalities involved for 25 to 30 years. Renovated in 2005, it maintains a rustic charm and a strong eco-conscious ethic, offering organic, recycled, natural, holistic and remedial products. Local craftspeople display handcrafted wares, and there is gourmet regional fare made with fresh local produce. Visitors can find contemporary arts, clothing, jewellery and homemade food products. The market also features a mini golf course and attracts thousands of visitors annually.
