About
Ringer Reef Winery, up in the Alpine Valleys, is a proper family affair run by the Holm family. They've been growing grapes and making their own vino on site since Annie and Bruce Holm started the vineyard back in 1998. It's a pretty special spot, too, sitting on land that's steeped in gold-mining history. Turns out, the name 'Ringer Reef' comes from a gold specimen found there in the late 1800s. The mine was active for a while, pulling out a fair bit of gold between 1898 and 1911.
Today, it's all about the wines. They make a diverse range of handmade wines, and you can front up to their cellar door to try them out and take some home. The cellar door's usually open every day from 12 pm to 5 pm, except for Wednesdays when they're shut. It's a great chance to chat to the family, learn a bit about their winemaking, and soak in the history of the place while you're at it. You'll find Ringer Reef Winery on the Great Alpine Road in Porepunkah, so it's an easy stop if you're exploring the area.
