OrganiGrow Eggs

Organigrow, run by Simon, is a cracker of a farm supplying certified organic free-range eggs. You'll find them over at 55/56 Chilcott St in NSW. These aren't just any eggs, either. Simon's team works hard from before sunrise, checking on the chooks, cleaning up, and making sure everyone's happy. The hens get to wander around their big enclosures, with perching houses for a nap and nesting spots. They also get stuck into some choice grain, specially mixed by Simon himself. Around 10 am, the hens are let out to graze all day on huge pastures, shaded by a heap of fruit and nut trees Simon planted way back twenty years ago. The team's busy collecting eggs throughout the day, both from the nesting houses and all over the farm. In the packing shed, the weighing and cleaning are automated, but the egg candling and packing are all done by hand with expert eyes. As the sun goes down, the chooks head back to their perching houses, and the team makes sure they're tucked in safely for the night, keeping them safe from foxes. It's a lot of graft, especially in summer with the heat, or when the heavy rains make puddles, which the hens apparently aren't too keen on.
