About
Down in the high country of the Granite Belt, you'll find Kominos Wines, a family-run spot that's been making cracking drops for years. They're particularly known for their Verdelho, Viognier, and Shiraz, all handcrafted right there on the property. When you swing by their cellar door, open daily, you get to taste what they've been working on, truly a vineyard-to-glass experience. It's set amongst some ruggedly beautiful scenery, with those famous granite boulders dotted about, and the vineyard's up pretty high, around 800-1000 metres above sea level. This gives their wines a real edge, with cold winters and warm summers creating a similar climate to some of Australia's best wine regions.
The Kominos family isn't new to this game either, with a long history of winning awards and even getting a nod from the Queensland Government for their export achievements. They've been sending their wines to Asian markets for two decades now, spreading the good word about Australian wine. Even a Master of Wine, Bob Campbell, has given them a shout-out, saying Kominos Wines has really put the Granite Belt on the map. Every now and then, they put on a 'Kefi' event too, a lively night with Greek food, dancing, and their wines, though you'll have to wait until 2026 for the next one. It's a great spot to see firsthand how much passion goes into every bottle.
