About
Jonai Farms & Meatsmiths is a family of agroecologists raising heritage-breed Large Black pigs and dairy Shorthorn cattle on 69 acres of unceded Dja Dja Wurrung country near Daylesford, Victoria. They acknowledge and pay respects to Djaara elders past and present, and pay 1% of their monthly income to Pay the Rent.
The farm butchers, cooks, and cures meat on site, selling pork and beef at the farm gate and through a community-supported agriculture (CSA) membership. They advocate for food systems transformation, aiming for ethical, ecologically sound, and socially just food production. The farm offers workshops and a residency program, and is fundraising to build an on-farm abattoir. Tammi Jonas, a member of the family, is President of the Australian Food Sovereignty Alliance. They also sell a book, 'Eat Like the Jonai', which is a guide for ethical eating and includes recipes.
