About
Emu Bay Lavender Farm on Kangaroo Island is a real working farm, not just a roadside stall. These folks are a fifth-generation island family, and they've been growing lavender since 2001. They've got 51 acres bursting with about 7,500 lavender plants, including a dozen different varieties of Lavandula Angustifolia and Lavandula Intermedia. Come summer, when the lavender's in full bloom, you'll see Kangaroo Island's famous Ligurian bees busy doing their thing, which helps produce Emu Bay's signature lavender honey. They hand-harvest heaps of lavender each year, around 8,000 bunches, and distil about 10 kilograms of essential oil. That might not sound like much, but it takes 100 kilograms of flowers to get just one kilogram of oil, so they're working hard. You can pick up all sorts of handmade lavender goodies from their online shop, including essential oils, soaps, and that lovely honey. They've also got things like lavender gin, jelly, and even a natural stress stick. It's proper farm-to-product stuff, all made right there on their property in Emu Bay, which is a cracking spot on the island known for its agriculture and conservation.
