About
Bochara Wines produces handcrafted premium wines in the Henty Wine Region. The vineyard was established in 1998 in the farming district of Bochara, located 10 km west of Hamilton in western Victoria's red-gum country, between Hamilton and the Wannon Falls southwest of the Grampians National Park. The site features well-drained buckshot gravel soil and a north-facing aspect, and is cool by Australian standards. The winery is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc, Picnic Train Rose, Pinot Noir, and Gewurztraminer, and also selects small batches of different varieties grown in the Henty region.
The cellar door is a restored weatherboard cottage that was formerly the home of a returned Light Horseman from the First World War, built in the nineteenth century and transported to its site in the 1920s. Restored in 2002, it provides a comfortable and historic venue for wine tasting with vineyard views. Visitors are welcome every day by appointment, except on Good Friday and Christmas Day. The distinctive logo and label are inspired by an art-nouveau design from a 1901 subdivision poster.
