About
Barrel Farm’s a cracking spot just outside Albany, out on the South Coast Highway. You’ll find it as the first farm on your right once you’ve crossed the new Ring Road. It’s a winery and brewery all rolled into one, where you can kick back and enjoy a drink and a feed. They’ve got their own range of Barrel Farm beers, like a crisp Lager, a Hazy XPA, an IPA, a Pale Ale, a Pacific Ale, and even a Demi Sec Cider, all brewed to be big on flavour. Then there’s the Yilgarnia Wines, made from grapes grown in Denmark’s ancient laterite soils, which give them a real intense character. You can grab a glass of their white, red, sparkling, or specialty wines. Grub-wise, they do modern Australian tucker with a Mediterranean twist, and the kitchen’s open from 11 am, shutting up shop at 3 pm most days, with Friday and Saturday nights stretching to 8 pm. If you’re after something casual, they do pizzas and fries in the arvo. Pick your spot: the restaurant, the tap room, or out in the courtyard. You can even spread out on the grass with a platter and soak in those farm views looking over the dam. They do custom cakes if you’ve got a special occasion coming up, and takeaway beers if you want to keep the good times rolling at home. For the little tackers, there’s a nature playground, and bigger kids can wear themselves out on the oval. They’ve often got live music on Sundays too, and dinner on Friday and Saturday nights.
