About
Backyard Beekeeping Ballarat is run by local beekeepers Amanda Collins and Scott Denno. They began beekeeping ten years ago after receiving a gifted hive and have since grown to manage around 80 hives from an urban apiary site in suburban Ballarat. The business specialises in beekeeping training, education, and supplies, offering a range of courses including the 'Secret Life of Bees: Open Hive Experience Workshop', 'Introduction to Beekeeping Course', 'Beyond Beginner: Advancing your beekeeping skills', 'Raising Queen Bees', 'Wax and Wine Workshop', and 'Honey Tasting and Appreciation'.
Amanda and Scott are foundation members of Ballarat Regional Beekeepers and founders of the social enterprise HiveMind Community Apiary, which teaches people with lived experience of mental illness how to care for honey bee hives. They supply local honey, Australian beeswax, and beekeeping equipment, and offer agricultural pollination services. Their online shop sells beekeeping supplies, PPE, hiveware, and honey.
