About
Achacha Fruit Plantation is located on the Bruce Highway, midway between Townsville and Ayr. It is the world's first commercial Achacha plantation, established in North Queensland in 2003. The Achacha is a highly prized tropical fruit, originally cultivated in Bolivia's Amazon Basin, where it is known as achachairú. The name Achacha translates to 'honey kiss'. The fruit is a cousin of the mangosteen.
During its season, Achacha fruit from the plantation is exported to Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and Canada. The fruit can be opened by piercing the skin and squeezing, and the skins can be used to make a refreshing, healthy drink. The plantation offers farm visits.
